Welcome to the new home of Sacramento, California Experimental/Industrial band ACIDCOP.
We still have a Myspace page up for the time being, but you will be able to access all the good things our Myspace has to offer and much more here @ blogspot.
I will also no longer do any booking through Myspace. Most of the time, if and when I log on, my inbox is flooded with spam and it makes it difficult to sift through all of that for the booking inquiries in between. On top of that, people are abandoning Myspace everyday, so it makes more sense to move information and media to another location.
However, at the present, I am not in the interest of pursuing a Facebook change. Facebook, my like myspace, is just another fad (much like blogging could or very may well be too...I understand this) so why not have a stable home at least for a little while longer than the social networks right? Right? Ummm...hello? Anybody there?
So, this will be the place for show listings, song and album uploads,videos, photos, and any other random stuff I feel like sharing with everyone. I'll get to that in the next few days, but for the time being; let's play catch up with a short bio:!
ACIDCOP is:
Rob: Synthesizers, samplers, sequencing, Monotron, Chamerblin, Novatron, Optigan, TR-606, Moog Filtatron, Noise.iO, Guitar Rig, TR-707, TR-808, TR-909, SH-201, minimoog, ARP 2600, Jupiter 8V, Korg MS-20, Polysix, NI Pro-53, FM7, Absynth, Kontakt, B3 Organ, Piano, Ableton Live!, electronic percussion and various audio treatments..
Tommy: NI Absynth, Pro53, FM8, Monotron, sampling, treatments and Bass synthesizer.
ACIDCOP started out as just Rob (drummer for Sacramento progressive-post grind duo TIMES OF DESPERATION & Black Metal/Thrash band MASTER LEATHER DADDY) recording songs and noise as a teenager. He had done home recording since be was 16 and always wanted to assemble a band that bludgeoned people with synths and samples. The problem was that he didn't know anyone who shared the same interest, or if he did meet someone who shared that interest; they were either too broke to commit to buying a keyboard or even worse: had very expensive equipment but zero musical abilities. The kind of people that liked to collect vintage synthesizers for mostly show or to pull out during parties or something occasionally to make bleeps and bloops to awe everyone.
He got bored and somehow managed to book an all ages matinee show for a Sunday afternoon. In quick need of a band name, he picked one that he had written down somewhere in a journal he kept while under the influence of LSD. It was a part of an experience he had where he and a group of friends had been chased down by the police while tripping out at a school and had set off a silent alarm at one of the classrooms. On the show, Rob comments;
"I had booked 2 other bands to play. They both flaked the night before, literally 12 hours before via phone call. I picked up my phone at about 1 am to be told that 'the show was cancelled' and I found it ridiculous because it was my show and I had booked it and my friend was telling me that my show had been cancelled because one band dropped off and she decided to do same when she found out the news at the very last moment. No hard feelings at all...at least not now...hahaha No, I'm joking. There were never any hard feelings. The person I booked the show to play on is a very dear friend of mine. She's super awesome and has since made quite the name for herself under the guise of MOM, and I'm very proud of her performance art. To think that my friend has found her niche is very exciting because with her, you never know what to expect...except to bring a change of clothes for after her performance! Very weird, psychedelic performance art. Beautiful, really."
So, with Biaggio's help, they basically played a Times Of Desperation/ACIDCOP hybrid set that can best be described as "noisegrind" to about 8 people. But that didn't stop him from trying again.
I had Biaggio helping out in the band because he seemed to show genuine interest in the project at the time. He just didn't have enough time to dedicate to learning the new-to-him instrument of the keyboard, so he used a radio through his guitar rig via Humbucker feedback that he manipulated with his arsenal of guitar effects. I rather enjoyed his input, but because of having the exact lineup as T.O.D., when finished with ACIDCOP sets we were greeted with things like "Ok. You guys done sound checking? Where are Rob's drums?"
Biaggio eventually bowed out from the project and Rob played a few shows alone. "Some were met with great enthusiasm from audiences. Others were severely plagued with technical difficulties that left me wondering if I should ever considering playing live electronics ever again. I had a great slot booked on a Halloween show and it was back in the days when I would bring out 1-2 computer towers to a show, plus monitors and such. Ran everything through MIDI with 2 keyboard controllers and everything decided to malfunction on me for the rest of the night. I had my friend Tony help me out at the last second because he was there and he had helped me in the past to great reception. Well, since my computers decided not to work and one keyboard was strictly a keyboard with no on-board sound, the one keyboard I had left was a cheap $80 Yamaha that I basically played over Tony's pre-made hip hop beats. No slight to him, he did his part fantastically. I, on the other hand, sounded like complete shit, cut our set after 10 mins and wanted to bury my head under the sand."
Rather than throwing in the towel, Rob took some time to familiarize myself with every bit of musical software he could get my hands on. Indeed, it has never been a better time to be an "electronic" musician. As his enthusiasm grew for both the technology and the musical experimentation that resulted from it, he talked more and more about it to his friend and fellow Master Leather Daddy band mate, Tommy Anderson (ex Cowboy Killer R.I.P.) , and he agreed to help out along the journey. Since he's joined, the band have played various additional venues including an Art Show opening for Jessica Murrieta at Bows & Arrows (featuring Matt Goosen on additional keyboards, at that time the 3 of them were working on a band called "The Crawling"), as well as local downtown establishment The Hub (R.I.P.) instead of their usual establishment The Java Loung, which had become a second home to the band, thanks to Sophie for always keeping the band in mind whenever she was booking a show and needed a band. ACIDCOP are grateful for her doing the best she could with what circumstances the so called "owners" laid upon her. That place would've imploded a lot sooner without her positive energy there.
While 2011 looked to be a promising year for the duo, things were cut short and put on hold for a few months when on July 25th, Rob got into a automobile accident in an attempt to avoid hitting a cat. He crashed his van into a tree about 6 inches away from the sidewalk. Despite the van flipping over on it's side, Rob was, for the most part, ok. It wasn't until his seat belt locked and the fire department REFUSED to cut it and pull him out through the windshield, severing his clavicle in the process.
Rob states that with plenty of time to lye around with his arm elevated and nothing to do but medicate with marijuana and watch movies, ACIDCOP will soon return to the studio to record their follow up to their nobody demo that no one probably ever heard except for the few people we gave free copies to CD from 2009.
"In between working on an ACIDCOP project currently dubbed "Giallo Terrore", I've been working on other tracks that will be the basic foundation for our first 'proper' release" says Rob.
"I've had a few set backs this year, including 2 trips to the ER, but despite these obstacles, I've manged to come up with more than a few ideas. I've got new instruments to work with, I've rebuilt and reworked my studio, I've got a different outlook in general. All of this downtime I've had [not practicing with Times of Desperation] has given me time to get back in touch with the things I love that got me interested in doing this kind of music in the first place. Thanks to new technology, I've gone from having literally 2 things in my old 'poor man's setup' to having virtually any instrument at my fingertips. I'm more excited than ever to complete a proper 'debut' this time around. As for the other disc, that was made in a night to sell at our show with SLEEPY EYES OF DEATH and only a few people have it. As of now, they are the only ones who will have it for the time being. Maybe one day, we'll give it the remaster treatment down the road. But right now, I doubt there's going to be anyone hunting me down for a copy! Tommy's got like 3 or 4 different bands he's in right now, but I'm sure he's ready to record too. If he's simply too busy to commit to ACIDCOP at this time, he's always got an open invitation. I'm prepared to either do this with him, by myself, or with another person. TIMES is my band, and ACIDCOP is my baby. As long as I'm alive, there will be an ACIDCOP."
